Retail Software Development

A Retail Software Development Company That Starts With Your Stock

Most retail problems look like software problems and are really data problems: two systems holding two versions of the same stock number. Stallyons is a Delaware-registered US company whose senior engineers work your hours, on one contract, with your IP signed before any access.

What Retail Software Development Really Covers

Retail software is the layer between what a customer sees and what your business actually holds. Tills, stockrooms, warehouses, suppliers, couriers and finance each keep their own record, and the job is making those records agree fast enough to sell against. Get it right and staff trust the screen in front of them. Get it wrong and every channel builds its own version of the truth, and colleagues end up keeping a notebook behind the counter.

Stallyons is registered in Delaware as a US company, and our senior engineers work inside a time-zone window you set, with four-plus hours of daily overlap. You sign a US contract, run diligence on a US entity and pay one US invoice. The engineers on your account average four-plus years of production experience across custom software, integrations and high-traffic systems, backed by twelve-plus years of delivery across six continents for operators, CTOs and heads of retail technology.

What Retail Software Covers

One stock ledger, not several: a single place that knows what is on hand, reserved, in transit and damaged, with every channel reading the same number rather than a copy that was accurate an hour ago.

Store systems that keep working: tills that take payment when the line drops, sync when it returns, and never leave a colleague apologising to a queue because head office had a bad afternoon.

Order management with rules you control: which site ships which order, when to split a basket, how a return re-enters stock, and what happens when the picked item is not on the shelf.

Supply chain and ERP integration: purchase orders, goods-in, transfers and costs mapped both ways against your finance system, rather than exported nightly and reconciled by hand.

Loyalty and promotions that trading owns: tiers, vouchers and offers configured by your team, applied identically at the till and online, without an engineer in the release path.

Reporting people actually open: margin, stock turn, shrinkage and basket mix built on the same figures finance uses, so nobody spends the meeting arguing about whose report is right.

Why Retail Businesses Choose A Custom Software Build

How To Start A Retail Software Project

Every engagement starts with a free 45-minute working session. No slide deck, no sales script. You bring the estate, the trading calendar and the constraints; you leave with a recommended approach, a clear scope and a timeline.

We are selective about new engagements and cap how many we run at once, because the vetting is the product. If we cannot staff your retail work with engineers we would vouch for, we will tell you so.

Common Challenges

Why Do Retail Systems Drift Apart?

Six patterns behind almost every retail estate that became slow to change. None of them are about the shop floor.

Stock Disagrees

01

The site sells the last unit a store sold ten minutes earlier. Somebody cancels the order, somebody else apologises, and the count is corrected by hand. Nobody records how often that happens.

POS Built As Island

02

The till system was bought separately and talks to nothing. Every new channel needs another bridge, and each bridge has its own idea of what a product is.

Promo Rules In Code

03

Every offer is a small development job, so trading books engineering time to run a weekend deal and the campaign calendar bends around the release train.

Nightly ERP Files

04

Costs, stock and orders move between systems once a day as flat files. The business is therefore always reasoning about yesterday, and nobody notices a failed transfer until Monday.

Returns Never Modelled

05

Refund, restock, quarantine and write-off all got built as one flow. Returned goods reappear as sellable when they should not, and shrinkage becomes a number nobody can explain.

Peak Trading Untested

06

The estate is only ever tested at normal volume. The one hour a year that pays for the quarter is the first time anyone finds out where the ceiling is.

Recognise a few of these? Let's fix the cause.

Our Retail Services

Six Retail Software Development Services

Six ways to add retail engineering capacity from one accountable vendor. Run one, or run several under a single contract.

Retail Platform Engineering

01

The systems behind the shopfront: product data, pricing, stock and orders built as services your channels read, with a named lead who reports into you rather than around you.

POS & Store Systems

02

Till software, offline handling, store colleague apps and device integration, built so a network drop is an inconvenience at the counter rather than a lost trading hour.

Order Management Builds

03

Sourcing rules, splits, click-and-collect, exchanges and returns, expressed as configuration your operations team can change without a release.

Inventory & Supply Chain

04

A single stock ledger with reservations, transfers, goods-in and adjustments, plus the warehouse and courier links that keep it honest as things move.

ERP & Systems Integration

05

Finance, ERP, WMS and supplier systems mapped both directions through documented APIs, replacing overnight file drops with events.

Retail Data, BI & Analytics

06

Trading dashboards, margin and stock-turn reporting and demand forecasting, built on one warehouse of figures that finance and trading have both agreed to.

Not sure which retail workstream comes first? Let's scope it.

Why Choose Us

What Makes Our Retail Software Development Different

The details that decide whether a retail estate is still quick to change in its third trading year.

A US Legal Entity

01

Stallyons is registered in Delaware. Your contract, your invoice and your legal recourse sit with a US company, not an unknown one.

Retail Domain Depth

02

Reservations, transfers, shrinkage and split orders come up in week one, because our engineers have built against them before.

Overlap You Set

03

You choose the hours we share with your working day, and stand-ups, reviews and escalations all happen inside that window.

Stock Truth First

04

We agree which system owns each number before writing code, so stock, price and order state each have one owner and every other system reads it.

Reviewed Code

05

Every merge is reviewed against an agreed definition of done, on your board, where you can read it yourself.

One Contract

06

One contract covers the engagement, so procurement, legal and finance each deal with a single named counterparty.

"We came to Stallyons after burning two years and four vendors on a multi-platform launch that kept slipping. They scoped it end-to-end — web app, iOS, Android, an AI summarization layer, and a Shopify integration — and shipped it in 22 weeks. One team, one budget, one quality bar. We've handed them three more engagements since."

"Stallyons rebuilt our customer-facing portal, integrated three legacy systems, shipped an AI document analysis pipeline, and brought our compliance posture to SOC 2 — all under one engagement. The senior engineers on the team have shipped at companies five times our size. It's the best vendor decision we've made in a decade."

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions On Retail Software

Retail software development is building and integrating the systems a retailer trades on: the stock ledger, the till software, product and pricing data, order management, loyalty, and the links into finance, warehouse and courier systems. It is less about any single application than about deciding which system owns which number, then making every other system read that number instead of keeping a copy of its own.
Both, but they are separate pieces of work and we are careful not to blur them. This page is about the retail systems: stock, tills, orders, supply chain, loyalty and reporting. If what you actually need is a storefront designed, built or replatformed, that work lives with our store build team, who handle the platform side end to end. Plenty of engagements run both together under one contract.
It moves with the size of the estate, how many systems already exist and how much of the work is untangling them rather than building new. Any single number quoted before scoping is a guess. What decides the cost is how many integrations are in play, how clean the product and stock data is, and how much of the current behaviour is undocumented.
By naming one owner for the number and giving everything else read access. Reservations, transfers, goods-in and adjustments all post to the same ledger, channels subscribe to changes rather than polling a copy, and the reconciliation job that catches drift runs continuously instead of nightly. Accuracy is a design decision, not a report.
You do, from the first commit. NDA and IP assignment are signed before anyone gets repository or system access, with no licence-back and no shared ownership. Repositories, cloud accounts, data stores and documentation live in your own name throughout, so there is nothing to negotiate back later.
Usually yes. SAP, NetSuite, Dynamics, Odoo and most warehouse systems expose an API, a message queue or at worst a file interface, and we map fields both directions with the edge cases written down first. Where only a nightly file exists we start there, then move the high-value flows such as stock and orders onto events.
Often, and it is usually the cheaper path. If the till platform exposes a usable interface we integrate around it and leave it in place. If it does not, we say so early and scope a replacement as its own phased project rather than folding a store-estate migration into another piece of work unannounced.
By keeping card data out of your systems wherever the payment provider allows it, so tokens move through your estate rather than card numbers. Access is scoped per person, environments are separated, and the design follows HIPAA, SOC 2, GDPR and PCI-DSS-aligned practice. We will show you the data flow before anything is built.
