Novel Energy Lighting:
A Magento 2 Redesign on the Hyva Theme

Overview

An online store that keeps trading cannot simply switch off for a rebuild. Novel Energy Lighting, an established lighting retailer, was running on Magento 1 with a design that had started to show its age. The task was to move the whole business to Magento 2 and give it a clean, modern, premium look, without dropping the catalog or losing a day of sales. As an experienced Magento development company, Stallyons Technologies rebuilt the storefront on the Hyva theme, migrated all 3,649 products, refreshed the brand’s logo, and delivered a fast, mobile-friendly store that scores green on Web Vitals.

The Starting Point

Understanding the work means starting with where the store was. This was a live business on aging software with a dated front end.

  • It was still on Magento 1. Magento 1 is an older, unsupported platform. The store needed to move to Magento 2 to stay modern, secure, and maintainable.
  • The design felt dated. The look had not kept pace with modern stores. It needed to feel clean and premium, not tired.
  • Speed and Web Vitals mattered. A slow store loses shoppers and search ranking. The new site had to load fast and score green on Google’s Web Vitals.
  • It had to work on phones. With so many shoppers on mobile, the design had to be fully responsive across every device.
  • A large catalog had to move. The store carries 3,649 products, all of which had to be carried across cleanly and kept current for launch.
  • The logo was aging. The brand mark was created over a decade ago and needed a refresh, while keeping the colors customers recognize.

The Approach

The project moved through clear stages: design first, then build, then migrate the catalog, with a logo refresh alongside.

Design first, in Figma. Every page was designed in Figma before any development began, then shared as a PDF for sign-off. This covered the home page, the about page, the category pages, the product pages, and the menu. Agreeing the look up front meant the build had a clear target and no guesswork later.

Build on Magento 2 with Hyva. Once the designs were approved, they were built on Magento 2 using the Hyva theme, chosen for its speed and strong Web Vitals scores.

Migrate the catalog and refresh the brand. The full 3,649-product catalog was imported from Magento 1, once during development and again just before launch, while the logo was modernized to match the new design.

The New Design

The design was the heart of the project. The brief was to move away from the old, boring look toward something clean, modern, and premium, using the touches shoppers expect from a current store.

Key elements included full-width pages for a spacious, premium feel, tiled navigation so shoppers can pick a product type or brand at a glance, image-rich menus that make browsing clearer and more inviting, a swipeable carousel for offers and promotions, and a fully mobile-responsive layout. Five key areas were designed in full, the home page, about page, category pages, product pages, and menu, each drawn in Figma and approved before building, so the whole store shares one consistent look.

Why the Hyva Theme

The choice of theme shaped the entire build. A rich, modern design can easily slow a store down, and a slow store costs both shoppers and ranking. Hyva was the answer, because it carries a modern, image-rich design while still loading fast.

A fast store is simply a better store. Shoppers abandon pages that load slowly, and search engines reward pages that load quickly. Google measures this through Web Vitals, and a green score signals a good page experience. Hyva is built to hit those green scores, which a heavier, older theme would struggle to reach. Building the new design on Hyva meant the store could be modern and fast at once, with the look never coming at the cost of speed and the speed never coming at the cost of the look.

Migrating the Catalog

A store is only as good as its catalog, and this one is large. Moving 3,649 products from Magento 1 to Magento 2 cleanly, and keeping them current for launch, was a core part of the work.

The catalog was imported twice on purpose. The first import happened during development, so the new store could be built and tested with real products. The second import happened just before going live, so any details that had changed in the meantime, prices, stock, and descriptions, were brought over fresh. This matters because the old store kept trading throughout the build. Products drift over weeks of development, and a final re-import right before launch ensures the new store goes live with accurate, up-to-date information rather than stale data from months earlier.

Function, SEO, and Brand

Beyond the look, the store had to work well, be found in search, and carry a refreshed brand. The new store has all the working parts of a modern Magento 2 shop, with a focus on intuitive navigation and stronger on-site search so shoppers find what they want and check out with ease. It was built with an SEO-friendly structure, so it is set up to rank and reach more shoppers through organic search. Paired with Hyva’s fast Web Vitals scores, that gives the store a strong base for search visibility. The brand’s logo, first made over thirteen years ago, was modernized to fit the new design while keeping its familiar colors, so the brand feels current without losing the identity customers already know.

The Results and Business Value

The finished store is modern, fast, and built to sell. The dated old look is gone, replaced by a clean, full-width design with tiled navigation, image-rich menus, and a swipeable offers carousel, all fully responsive and built to score green on Web Vitals.
