Snacks are an impulse buy. Someone sees the chips or the chocolate they want, grabs it, and pays, all in under a couple of minutes. Miss any step and the sale is gone. So when a Sydney snack business had a domain, hosting and email but no actual store, there was nothing online for either a shopper or a retailer to act on.
That is where this project started for Snack World, a Sydney business selling chips, chocolates, candy, nuts and dried fruit, baked treats and drinks to shoppers online while also supplying retail outlets at wholesale prices. The owner knew exactly what he wanted: a clean, balanced store that took card payments and that he could run himself. We designed and built snackworld.com.au on WordPress and WooCommerce and handed it over ready to run.
Put simply, we built the whole store, not just a theme. There is a home page with an image slider, featured categories, promotions and a newsletter; clean shop and product pages; wishlist, cart and Stripe card checkout; customer accounts with order history; and content pages including About, Contact, Videos and store policies. It went live on the client’s own hosting in September 2021 after several rounds of design feedback, with training videos so the owner could add products and update content on his own.
The owner had a clear picture in his head and the domain and hosting ready, but nothing to sell from. Without a website he could reach neither everyday shoppers nor the retail outlets looking for a supplier. The build had to answer several needs at once:
Snack World’s store makes browsing and buying quick. Building a complete WooCommerce storefront, catalogue, cart, Stripe checkout and customer accounts, on top of WordPress is standard custom WooCommerce development, shaped here around a deliberately calm, uncluttered design. A shopper’s path runs straight through:
Alongside the storefront sits the rest of a real shop: content pages for About, Contact, a Videos page for clips, and the store policies, plus a newsletter and a promotions area for news and seasonal offers. The shop and product pages were deliberately stripped back to match a simple reference store, part of the broader ecommerce development that turns a plain catalogue into a store people trust enough to pay on.
Snack World runs on WordPress with WooCommerce handling products, orders, customers and payments. The hard part was never the store engine. It was delivering a clean, balanced design across screen sizes, keeping the shop simple by switching off the parts that were not needed, and handing over a store a non-technical owner could manage.
The design was built with visual page editing so the owner updates products, prices, images and text himself. Short training videos showed him where to go for common tasks, and the layout was checked and corrected across desktop, iPad and Mac screens as well as mobile, so it looks balanced wherever a shopper opens it.
The first challenge was getting the design exactly right. The owner cared deeply about symmetry and balance and gave feedback through detailed annotated PDFs, so each round was implemented, shown back with short progress videos on a staging link, and walked through on calls when written notes were unclear. Spacing and alignment were fine-tuned until the layout felt balanced on every screen, including the iPad and Mac cases that displayed differently from desktop.
The second was serving two kinds of customer without overcomplicating the store. The owner first asked for prices to be visible only to logged-in customers to protect trade pricing; after an internal review the business chose a simpler model, retail prices for everyone plus a subscription form that routes retailers to the owner’s inbox for a personal wholesale price list. One store now serves both markets cleanly, the kind of practical fit that works across retail and ecommerce businesses selling direct to shoppers and to trade at the same time.
The outcome is a store the owner is proud of and runs on his own. Snack World launched on snackworld.com.au in September 2021 on the client’s own hosting, with Stripe checkout, full customer accounts and more than twenty store, account, content and policy pages. The owner was soon loading products and editing content himself, left a strong review and came back for further work in later years. Shoppers buy at retail prices and pay by card, and retailers subscribe for wholesale, all in one clean store with no monthly platform fees.
It worked because the scope was agreed up front, the design was driven by real feedback, and the handover was taken as seriously as the build. If you need a store built from scratch that you can actually run yourself, you can hire WordPress developers who design, build and hand over WooCommerce stores, or tell us what you sell and we will build the store and show you how to run it.
What was built for Snack World?
A complete WooCommerce store on WordPress: a home page with slider, featured categories, promotions and a newsletter; clean shop and product pages; wishlist, cart and Stripe card checkout; customer accounts with order history and addresses; and content pages including About, Contact, a Videos page and store policies. It launched on the client’s own hosting in September 2021.
Can the owner manage the store himself?
Yes. The store was built with visual page editing so the owner updates products, prices, images and text without a developer, and he received short training videos covering the common tasks. After launch he was confidently loading products and editing content on his own.
How are payments handled?
Shoppers pay securely by card through Stripe, and each order comes with a confirmation showing the order number and details. Orders are routed to the owner for fulfilment, and because the store is self-hosted on WooCommerce there are no monthly platform fees, only card processing costs.
How does one store serve both retail and wholesale?
Retail prices are shown to everyone, which keeps buying simple. Retail outlets that want trade pricing subscribe through a form on the home page, and their details go straight to the owner’s inbox so he can send a wholesale price list personally. That replaced an earlier login-gated pricing model with a cleaner experience for both groups.
Where is the store hosted?
It runs on the client’s own A2 Hosting account at snackworld.com.au. The store was built on a staging server first, then moved to the client’s hosting once the domain pointed there, and the admin area was secured with security plugins and a custom login address.
